Windows 8 software update tool for Samsung Series 7 Slate
Samsung just released a new piece of software (sw update) that detects your computer model and finds Windows 8 Drivers. It also has some new Samsung utility software on it as well.
SW Update is a program that allows you to install the latest Samsung software and updates with ease. Normally, software is installed from CDs, DVDs, or by directly downloading the software from the Samsung Electronics website. With SW Update, however, you can automatically search for and download the BIOS, drivers, and software for your Samsung computer product over the internet, without having to look them up individually. What’s more, you can choose to install all available software and updates at once or install them selectively. Certain software and updates may be required to ensure complete functionality of your Samsung computer, so it is recommended that you use the automatic notification feature to easily find the essential software for your computer and the updates for enhanced features.

Once installed and the first time you launch it, you will be prompted to put in your serial number of your device (I don’t like that, but oh well). I have the Samsung //BUILD tablet and it was able to detect drivers for it. On the summary page it identified all sorts of drivers, some that were up to date and others that were newer. You can click on the specific driver and install it, download it, or install them all. On mine it detected about 13 updates.
It will also allow you to download all the drivers (they call it export) and Samsung software as well. All in all it was about 1.5GB of stuff.
There is a piece of software that acts like the old Windows Start button for those who still can’t live without it. It’s pretty cool.
Great job Samsung! I only wish this would have been out there sooner for us early W8 pioneers.

I just upgraded my SW Update to the latest version when it asked to be updated at startup. I have Windows 7 running. All of a sudden, SW Update does not know which updates to offer me – it used to get my Laptop model automatically – OK not a big deal. I get through the model selection BUT now it asks me which Windows 8 version am i running ??? Windows 8? Why? Cause Samsung f*cks me that’s WHY! It just offers me Windows 8 drivers now? Should i install this? I am not upgrading to Windows 8…

I beleive this is for Windows 8 only. There are currently Windows 7 drivers out on their site. Too bad, cause this is far better than checking a web site. Sorry…

i did not choose to upgrade to the Windows 8 version of “SW Update”. It was running on my Windows 7 laptop since i bought it in august perfectly fine. I started it yesterday and it updated itself to a Windows 8 version. Like you are saying – it’s a great piece of software, bringing drivers and software to you instead of having to look for them. But the old 1.*** version was better, more informative and it worked on my Win7 laptop.

Yikes, that stinks. Are you able to uninstall it and get the previous version from their site?

I tried. The old version does not let you bypass it’s own update. So it updates to the latest Win8 version again. I am contacting Samsung about it…

Let me know what they say. The W8 rocks on the S7 though. Give it a try. Back up your W7 using native backup and give it a try.

Umm, I also have a question about it. In SW Update can you use the ‘Help’ section? I’m running Win 8 and the ‘Help’ section is not working in my SW
I purchased my Samsung laptop Nov 2012-worked fine until I started to get SW updates.
The first time I paid one of those PC fix places $199 to get it working again. Then it messed up the internet connection-spent about an hour on the phone with Samsung to figure out why it couldn’t connect and stay connected. Then it disabled the Adobe Flash Player-a friend fixed it for me. This last one has disabled the internet explorer-got a message that windows cant connect to windows All-User install Agent Service-printer is off line-I can’t even get on any of the help chat lines. Tried calling Samsung the other day-got music on hold for 45 minutes so I hung up without getting any assistance. How can I stop these updates or at least figure out why it screws something up almost every time????????

You aren’t the first to report issues with the SW Update program. I have fortunately not experienced any issues. Not sure if an uninstall/reinstall of the update program is worth a shot.

SW Update is a piece of crap. I rented a laptop from Rent-A-Center and everything was fine until SW Update started freaking out. Every time I tried to open an application I was prompted to allow SW Update to open. If I said Cancel my program wouldn’t open. Taking the laptop back tomorrow and you can bet I’m never touching a Samsung again.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I have it installed on Samsung Series 7 and ATIV and have not had a problem. Lucky I guess.
I like the concept of the update center, but it sounds like it may need some refining.

The idea is great, but what’s up with the file sizes? 463MB for a sound driver? 285MB for Support Center, 249MB Wireless Display, 167MB Touchpad driver, and the list goes on. Well over 1GB to install a few drivers, are you taking the p…?
